Frequently Asked Questions
Placing An Order
How are your products shipped?
Orders ship frozen in insulated packaging with dry ice, designed to arrive frozen anywhere in the country. Every component of the packaging is recyclable. Orders leave the farm Monday through Wednesday so nothing sits in a warehouse over the weekend and orders arrive the next day.
We ship to all 50 states for orders over $50. Shipping is complimentary on orders over $200.
If you have a problem with your order, please contact us.
Where is your temporary pickup location?
Yellow Springs, Ohio. Until our farm store opens in May 2027, pickup is at a private address on the farm, so we will confirm the exact location by email when you order.
(We do not have an order minimum nor charge a fee for local pickup.)
Why are some cuts sometimes unavailable?
We sell whole animals, cut by cut. Each animal yields only so many ribeyes, and when a cut sells out, it is gone until the next harvest.
Some cuts naturally sell more quickly than others, which means availability can change throughout the year.
One of the advantages of buying directly from a farm is getting to know and use the whole animal, including cuts that may be unfamiliar to you.
Can I shop in person?
Not yet, but we're working on it! Our farm retail store is scheduled to open May 2027 in Yellow Springs, OH.
Do you offer whole, half, or quarter cow pricing?
Yes. Buying in bulk is the most economical way to eat our beef, and many families fill a freezer once or twice a year. Email orders@yellowspringsprovisions.com with the subject line Freezer Beef and we will walk you through options and timing.
Why does your beef cost more than conventional beef?
Our cattle live their entire lives on pasture and take roughly twice as long to reach weight as feedlot cattle. We spend that time on rotational grazing, soil health, and animal care, and we pay for careful, small-scale processing.
Commodity beef is priced for speed. Ours is priced for how it is raised. When you buy from us, you are not just buying beef; you are helping keep a local farm on the land and under careful management.
Do you offer wholesale?
Yes. If you are interested in wholesale pricing, please contact us at orders@yellowspringsprovisions.com and mention wholesale pricing. Thanks!
Farming Practices
Is all of your beef grass-fed and grass-finished?
Yes! All of our beef is always 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. Our cattle spend their whole lives grazing on pasture where they feed on grasses and natural forage. The result is beef with the depth and character of an animal finished slowly on grass.
Are your products organic?
No. Organic certification is a rigorous and complex process. We are committed to rotational grazing, no GMOs, no grain finishing, no confinement, no antibiotics, and no chemical inputs on our pastures. Learn more about our animal welfare and regenerative practices.
Do you use hormones or antibiotics?
No. Our animals are raised without added growth-promoting hormones or antibiotics. Antibiotics are not used as part of our normal production practices.
However, animal welfare always comes first. If an animal becomes sick or injured and requires antibiotic treatment, we will treat that animal appropriately. Any animal that requires antibiotics is removed from our meat program.
Do you vaccinate your animals?
No, our animals are not vaccinated. Herd health on our farm starts with pasture, nutrition, low stress, and daily observation, and every animal is monitored closely.
Can I visit your farm?
Yes, come see where your food is raised!
We welcome scheduled visits when weather, farm work, and animal care allow. Because this is an operating farm, visits are by appointment only. Contact us to schedule a visit.
When you contact us, tell us whether you are planning an order pickup, want to learn about the farm, or are interested in a future event.
What if I have more questions?
If you have a question about how we raise our animals, manage our land, or produce your food, please contact us and ask.
We're happy to talk about farming, even when the question is complicated.
